    I don't know why not though I've not done it myself with two PCs. I
    have used a simple, dumb hub to connect two Macs together and on another
    occasion, connected a Mac and a PC together using the same hub.

    If you're going to do it a lot I'd get a simple, dumb hub. They can be
    had for next to nothing. A crossover cable would probably be the least
    inexpensive option and for a one-time use perhaps the most economical.
