(Yeah, didn't there used to be a product called "Freedom Of The
Press" that did this? Heck, you could also use Unix and Ghostscript.)

That's all good and well, but i'd rather not leave a PC or Mac on all
the time just for an occasional print job. (My Canon S450, when
plugged into a Mac w/ USB, can be put into "print server" mode, but i
don't have a "spare" Mac w/ USB, nor would i want to leave it on all
    the time.)

Why can't Apple support LPR for non-PostScript printers? Well, i
    guess it's not Apple's fault -- it's Canon's fault. i wonder if a
"shim" could be written that provides a loopback PAP device that can
respond and forward data to an LPR device. Hm.

If i remember correctly, the Jet Direct print server that Harold
mentioned (what model number?) will only work with either:
    1) Parallel printers that support PostScript, or 2) Printers that have
LocalTalk ports. Basically it had an an Ethernet->LocalTalk bridge,
as well as a Parallel port.

The problem is 1) Color PostScript printers are way expensive, and
    2) Nobody makes printers with LocalTalk ports anymore.
