Actually if the name is longer than 12 character the OS CAN connect to it if
you type the path in ...for instance

\\printserver\J57 LaserJEt 4050n

will work just fine, we have about 40 printers installed. 98 I believe
suffers from the same but not sure...NT and W2K see them just fine....
